Betws Railway Station Team celebrating annual charity donation

Charity Donation 2021 – a huge thank you to all who supported us.

Our annual donation to the animal charities we support

Which organisations do we make a charity donation to? Read on to find out!

If you have ever visited Betws Railway Station you will have noticed a distinct wildlife theme, in particular: Apes!

Owners Jacha and Gwyn use their businesses at the station to raise awareness and money for two special Ape charities. Jacha is very proud to be an ambassador for Ape Action Africa and a director of Orangutan Appeal UK.

Each year Jacha, Gwyn and the team raise money through sales of pizzas at Hangin’ Pizzeria, collection boxes and fountains at the pizzeria and Alpine Coffee Shop, and sales of Jacha’s artwork at the Platform Galeri. Occasionally the annual charity donation is boosted with a crazy fundraising challenge such as climbing Kilimanjaro.

What was our grand total for this years donation?

To say the last two years have been difficult for hospitality settings would be an understatement. Jacha and Gwyn have had to change the way the businesses operate to meet the covid regulations set out by the government, this has included long periods of complete closure.

Even with the difficult circumstances, 2021 saw the team raise an incredible £22,000!!

This of course would not be possible without the continued support of our customers and suppliers. The whole team would like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to you all. Everyone who visited the station and spent money with us or made a donation, you’ve all made a difference. It’s always very much appreciated but especially this year when the world has been a very different and uncertain place.

To add to the success of our conservation ape beer in collaboration with From the Notebook, we have now added a Pangolin Pilsner. Meaning that this year we have also been able to raise money for REST Namibia and Sangha Pangolin Project.

The money raised will make a difference to the charities, allowing them to continue to support vulnerable species across the world.

A special thanks to our suppliers: Cup of Tea, Tanners Wines, and Nanona for their continued support.
