The Bigger Picture
In the summer Jacha was contacted by the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy and invited to be a part of their art trail around Conwy in November. The theme of the trail was conservation which of course is very close to Jacha’s heart.
Conservation issues are varied and impact us locally and globally. The environment and social concerns are conversations across the generations and different sectors. The RCA and local artists collaborated to bring artworks into Conwy Town, partnering with businesses and organisations.
The travelling orangutan.
Jacha took a number of his pieces to Conwy to be a part of the trail. The star of the show was the orangutan sculpture that usually sits on the platform at Betws-y-Coed Railway Station. The orangutan, made from ropes, netting and plastic collected from a local beach, sat outside the Royal Cambrian to invite visitors inside. Once inside there was even more recycled artwork to see, each piece telling its own story of species impacted by climate change, habitat loss and pollution.
