Michael Portillo visits the coffeeshop.

Michael stopped by to do a spot of filming for his BBC2 travel series.

Great British Railway Journeys on BBC2 features Michael Portillo travelling around the UK on the railway network. Our station here in Betws-y-Coed has featured in the programme previously, however this time wanted to do some filming inside the coffee shop as well. Michael particularly wanted to sample our traditional Welsh rarebit dish.

It was a beautiful day for them to see the station in all her glory, and to make it even better, it was the first day that the trains were running again. We have had months of a bus replacement service to due repairs being carried out on the line after storm damage.

After his lunch, Michael very kindly agreed to have his photograph taken with our copy of the Remembering Great Apes book. The book includes a photograph of an orangutan mother and baby taken by Jacha on a trip to Borneo. All proceeds from the book go to ape conservation projects around the world. You can buy your own copy of the book, or any others in the series from their website.
