Tamar from Sangha Pangolin Project visits Betws-y-Coed

This week, the Betws Railway Platform team welcome Tamar from the Sangha Pangolin Project to learn about the incredible work they do.

In November 2024, we welcomed Tamar Cassidy from the Sangha Pangolin Project to Betws-y-Coed. The Sangha Pangolin project is dedicated to researching pangolins the Dzanga Sangha Protected Areas. They place camera traps to record and study the pangolins in the area, with the aim of tracking them and studying their distribution.

At night, the White-Bellied Pangolins roam the areas around the lodge, but are elusive and very difficult to spot – research teams can go weeks at a time without seeing one. Black-Bellied Pangolins roam in the day, so the two species call for all-round monitoring.

Sold in the Hangin’ Pizzeria, our range of beers from ‘From the Notebook’ raise money for the Sangha Pangolin Project, alongside a range of other charities and projects.

During her visit, Tamar had a browse around Platform Galeri and tried on some of the newly delivered pieces from Mulberry Mongoose – a Zambian company that collects snares and turns them into jewellery.
